2007 Event

2007 RA Event recognition ceremony On Thursday, January 25, 2007, the Missouri Recycling Association (MORA) held its fourth annual Recycling Awareness Day in the Rotunda of the State Capitol. MORA recognized children from across the state who contributed art work to the 2007 Missouri Recycles Day Calendar. Over 4,000 K-12 students from approximately 400 public and private schools submitted entries that were judged on artistic merit and on how well they expressed the theme of America Recycles Day, "Recycling: It all comes back to you." First place, second place and one honorable mention from each grade level were recognized by Susan Montee, Missouri's State Auditor and MORA Board Member, Marienne Galamba-Brown.

MORA also hosted a fashion show with items made from recycled content products. "Green Elvis" served as the emcee as Missouri Legislators and MORA Board Members modeled the recycled clothing.

2007 RA Event fashion show Although the events of the day were lighthearted and fun, MORA stressed recycling is an industry in Missouri that provides jobs for more than 28,000 people. Missouri manufactures more than $2 billion dollars worth of goods for sale out of recovered materials and the total payroll for collection, processing, manufacturing, reuse, and remanufacturing accounts for over $700 million in direct payroll (see Economic Benefits of the Recycling Industry in Missouri, Ann Ulmer and David Valentine February 2005, Institute of Public Policy, University of Missouri, Report #08-2005).
